Another edition of the books that are currently residing on my nightstand waiting to be read. It's quite a mixed bag this month, and I'm pretty sure I didn't do it for the month of February...sorry 'bout that. Let's see what I'm going to be reading (I will go from top to bottom).
So I have apparently never read a book by David Mitchell before, although I thought I had. Anyways, this book follows Holly Sykes; a fifteen year old runaway with psychic phenomena. As she goes deeper into the English countryside, she has visions and coincidences that alter her reality. This book sounds kind of weird honestly. I'm not really sure I understand what exactly it is about, but then again, isn't that part of the fun?
This book has much anticipated for me. I absolutely LOVED the previous two books in the Ashfall series. I'm going to try to not reveal any spoilers. Almost a year after the eruption of the Yellowstone super volcano, the few survivors are battling it out; groups of cannibals roam the countryside and the little government that survived has collapsed entirely. The main characters from the previous two books, Alex and Darla, are facing the reality that their home is no longer safe. This just sucks me in so hard. I want to stop living my life and just sit and inhale this book. I am irrationally excited.
This a memoir about a woman's promiscuous and self-destructing spiral after being cast out of her Orthodox Jewish family. I enjoy memoir's and for some reason I really enjoy memoir's that involve self-destructing behavior. This seems like an interesting read, and I know very little about Orthodox Jews so I look forward to perhaps gaining a little insight on their beliefs. Hopefully it's not too prejudiced based on her experiences.
From reading the synopsis on Goodreads, this is basically about a woman who makes a bucket list of things she wants to do in bed. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this, but I have it (somehow?) and will read it.
I recently read the first one in the series (it might actually only be a trilogy...) and I thought it would just be a fluffy read, something easy to get through. But it was surprisingly SO GOOD. There were fluffy bits, but it also a really insightful and touching plot line. I am eager to read this one and see how it goes.
This book takes place in Stalin's Soviet Union, and it follows officer Leo Demidov who is a war hero. It follows him as he fights to uncover a murderer in a country where "crime" doesn't really exist. This is the first book in the Leo Demidov series, so if it's good I definitely look forward to having more to read.
What books are currently on your nightstand? Happy March!
